Nevermind all the Android Phone users eagerly awaiting software version 2.2 to be available for their mobile device, future Google TV users should be just as excited about ‘Froyo.’ A JavaScript performance test (results pictured above) performed by the folks over at ars technica shows excellent browsing speeds when compared to Apple’s iOS4. This particular test uses the SunSpider benchmark, which tests the core JavaScript language itself, and the V8 benchmark, which is the JavaScript engine used by Google Chrome. Obviously there is going to be a significant discrepancy with the V8 benchmark, as Safari utilizes another custom engine called SquirrelFish. The SunSpider benchmark, on the other hand, is perhaps a more accurate comparative measure as it is a test of the core JavaScript language rendering ability rather than a proprietary engine. Obviously, you are left to make your own judgment as to how accurate two tests can be, especially the V8 benchmark described above, but nevertheless these benchmarks should give Android users, including future Google TV users, something to be excited about.
