The NFL has struck a deal with Google to bring its NFL Network and Redzone channels to Google Fiber, the search engine’s new experimental broadband Internet and TV service launching in Kansas City, Mo. and Kansas City, Kan. During their press release, the NFL took the opportunity to mention that Google Fiber is the second carrier in a Time Warner market that will be offering the NFL Network, reaffirming the fact that Time Warner is the only major cable provider to not offer the channels.

Perhaps this is just a ploy to pressure Time Warner into finally offering the NFL content, but in any case this is good news for football fans who are planning on getting Google Fiber. Ironically enough Google still hasn’t struck a deal with sports giant ESPN, but has already secured channels like Showtime, Starz, Comedy Central and CNBC.

There is still no word as to when Google Fiber will officially launch, but Kansas City residents have until September 9th to pre-register for the chance to receive service.

It seems that Time Warner is cozying up with Google, and it seeking to make more of its content available online in the wake of the surging consumer interest in Internet TV devices like Google TV.

CEO Jeff Bewkes is predicting that online providers like Netflix and Hulu are going to be faced with more competition from the cable and satellite providers, as they begin pushing more and more content to the Web. Bewkes had the following to say on the subject:

“When all of the content on the big screen works like the content on the little screen, what will happen? The programming will trump the interface.”

Time Warner is currently optimizing its networks’ websites for TV, and is close to signing a “TV Everywhere” deal with DISH Network, DirecTV, and AT&T, which aims to ensure that only paying customers can access shows, preventing content from being distributed on sites like Hulu.
