Despite rumors, Apple did not announce a new Apple TV or any changes to the Apple TV platform. Apple did however announce the new iPhone 4, and has rebranded the iPhone / iPad operating system as iOS 4. Apple is clearly gearing up to compete with Google TV by rebranding it’s mobile operating system so that it can be used on other devices such the iPad, and Apple TV. Rumors have it that iOS 4 will power the new Apple TV bringing Apple’s App Store to your TV. Apple typically only announces new major products about three times a year, sometime around January-Feburary, WWDC in June of every year, and then again in September they commonly hold a press event to announce new iPods and consumer products such as the Apple TV. With no announcement today it is likely we will not see or hearing anything new from Apple on this front until at least September 2010.
Another interesting note from WWDC was the announcement of Netflix full movie streaming for the iPhone coming later this summer.
