The other day, we brought you a rumor that the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) SDK was going to be dropping on November 11. Well, now it seems that someone on the leadership team of the Open Handset Alliance (one of the governing bodies that backs Android) has tweeted the following:
Prepare your Nexus One (Developer version) for Android OTA update 2.3 (Gingerbread) in the next few days:-D
Obviously Android users are anxious for Android 2.3, but Google TV users may also be wondering when they may see some Gingerbread love on their GTV devices. Seeing as there’s no word as to when we may be getting 2.2 (Froyo), or whether or not they’ll make the jump straight to 2.3, we may be waiting for a while. Stay tuned.

It seems like only yesterday that Google TV was officially announced back in May at I/O, and that a new chapter in the saga that is television was upon us. Well, here we are three months later, and that mystical, dreamy-eyed view once held by many has been replaced with a skepticism that is being felt not only by consumers, but by those in the media and entertainment industry as well.
On paper, Google TV is a great idea. The ability to be able to search for what you want to watch across content stored on your network connected devices, as well as the seemingly infinite library available online, should be enticing to just about everyone. As we draw closer to the actual release, however, Google’s plan is becoming more ambitious than it is practical, and many are starting to wonder if they can actually deliver.
If Google TV is to be truly successful, a few things are going to need to happen that, at least at the time of writing this article, are currently absent. Obviously, there are more than five factors that need to be considered, but these are among the most pressing issues being discussed as of late. Google announced a new Chrome extension today called Chrome to Phone, which utilizes Android’s new Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM) to push small amounts of data, such as links, to an Android powered phone right from the browser. This extension requires Android 2.2, so it would not work with Google TV out of the box. However, with either a Froyo update for GTV, or a port of Chrome to Phone to work with 2.1, this extension should have no problem working with Google TV. The possibilites for such an extension are endless. Imagine sitting on the couch with your laptop and you are sent a link to a YouTube video you want to watch, or you find a stream of a sporting event not available in your area. With Chrome to Phone (or in this case Chrome to TV) you simply press a button and the video is brought up right on your TV.
