Twitter expressed their plans for Google TV today in an official blog entry on their website. Due to the increasing popularity of TV and Twitter integration, they have announced a Twitter app specifically designed for Google TV.

The new app will come pre-installed, offering you the same functionality you’re used to – making it even easier to tweet about your favorite Glee episodes without missing a beat (right…)

The entry also mentions an ongoing interest in television tweeting so we’re likely to hear more about this in the future.

Now that the new Google TV website has everyone excited, it’s time for some more great news. Sony is giving away one of their new Internet TV’s, but you’re going to have to express a bit of creativity to snag the prize.

Sony wants to know how you multitask using media, and is looking for your answer in the form of a Twitter reply to @SonyElectronics, or in a response to the blog post.

Remember, they are emphasizing creativity, so pictures and video are encouraged. For example, check out the video below from Sony video blogger Toby Turner.

As the end of the “Host with the Most” competition draws near, Logitech has decided it’s time to get a little one on one time with each of the contestants. First we brought you the interviews with the LA finalists, and then we brought you their interviews with the finalists for the NY Loft, and now, we’re bringing you Logitech’s interviews with the SF finalists. We did not have the pleasure of talking with any of these finalists during our original interview phase, so we’re just as excited to hear what they have to say as you are.

The 2010 Edinburgh International Television Festival is underway this weekend, featuring panels and discussions covering a variety of topics, including marketing and branding, industry advancements, and the future of TV.

One of these panels, ‘RIP: Scheduled TV?’, featured Google TV’s Principal of New Business Development, Jill Szuchmacher. The panel was also comprised of Tim Hunt, Marketing Director, Project Canvas, Brian Lenz, Director Product Design & TV Product Development, Sky, and Sarah Rose, Director of Commercial & Business Development, Channel 4.

The discussion focused on whether or not linear TV as we know it will go the way of the dodo, in favor of on demand and streaming via the Web. Here is what Szuchmacher had the following to say in regards to Google TV integrating into the linear TV experience:

“Google TV can pass through the existing TV guide and add search to it. Linear still offers the highest-quality viewing option in the US; TV watching becomes a little more targeted, there’s less zapping around, but we don’t see this as being disruptive in ways people are scared of. The killer application of TV is TV.”

Check out the full transcript of the ‘RIP: Scheduled TV?’ panel after the break.

Lonely TV part 3

UPDATE 8/28/10: Engadget has scrounged up a copy of the video, which you can check out here.

Well, it seems that all the bad press received from ‘Lonely TV’ part 3 has caused Logitech to delete the ad from their YouTube channel all together. Once the video began circulating the blog circuit, dozens of articles and countless tweets began springing up, most of which carried a very negative critique of the ad.

For those of you who missed it, the spot featured a tweenage girl video chatting with her friend, only to be ambushed by the family’s attention seeking TV, complete with human legs and a giant eyeball in desperate need of some Visine. A screaming match ensued, and then the TV takes off running down the hall, back to the twisted nether from which it came.

The move is certainly not all that surprising, and definitely makes a case for the power of online opinions. We are working hard to track down a copy of the spot, but unless someone happened to rip the original YouTube video, this one may have to live on in our memories… or rather, our nightmares.
