Your source for everything Google TV

A couple weeks ago, a source tipped us off that Dish Network had quietly begun selling the Logitech Revue to customers for $179. Well, Dish is no longer being quiet about it, and has formally announced the sale via a press release issued earlier today.

Dish customers who purchase a Logitech Revue get some enhanced features not accessible with other set-top boxes, including the ability to search across DVR content. The Revue is compatible with the VIP 622,722and722k HD DVR receivers. The Dish enhanced features are available on both the Logitech and Sony Google TV devices, but the discounted price of $179 is only available for the Revue and when ordered directly from Dish.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 10, 2010/PRNewswire/ — DISH Network L.L.C. (Nasdaq: DISH) today announced that DISH Network’s Google TV solution is now available to customers for the lowest price on the market: $179. By combining robust search capabilities and the variety of content on the Web with DISH Network’s onscreen programming data, DVR and Video on Demand content, DISH Network delivers a seamless entertainment experience resulting in the most advanced integration of Google TV on the market.

“Only DISH Network customers will have access to the most fully-featured Google TV experience available, which includes our unique pairing protocol for simultaneous search capabilities across Web and DVR content, as well as DISH Network’s VOD programming,” said DISH Network Chief Marketing Officer Ira Bahr. “Customers can now surf the Web, check email, interact with social media, and find additional online television content all from the comfort of their living room sofa.”

“Google TV makes the Web another channel on your TV by bringing the Internet together with the TV programming you know and love,” said Rishi Chandra, lead product manager for Google TV. “We’re excited to work with DISH Network to bring an enhanced Google TV experience to its subscribers so they can find even more content to watch – whether on their DVR, TV or the Web.”

DISH Network’s Google TV solution, which requires a DVR integration service of $4 per month, includes the Logitech Revue with Google TV, a small set-top box available for a special price of $179 (MSRP $299) – an exclusive deal for DISH Network customers. The Google TV experience is compatible with DISH Network ViP series HD DVR satellite TV receivers including the ViP 622, ViP 722 and ViP 722k.

Customers can order by logging in to their DISH Network account at www.dish.com or by calling 800-894-9131. Equipment will be shipped directly to the customer. After the Revue is connected, a helpful onscreen wizard walks the customer step-by-step through the simple set-up process.

DISH Network also makes its enhanced Google TV experience available to customers who purchase a Logitech Revue or Sony Internet TV powered by Google TV from retail outlets; however, the special $179 offer is only available when customers order directly from DISH Network. 1. Will Sours says:

Hmmm, I KNOW a Dish subscriber… wonder how many they can order?

I went the wrong way about it. I bought the Revue and then wanted more out of it, so then I switched from Comcast to DISH. The integration between the Revue and the DISH DVR is great, leaps and bounds better than with a Comcast DVR. The Revue even gives the DISH DVR WiFi access via the network ports.

  3. Will Sours says:

Wait a sec, $4 a month for “DVR integration service”? What the hell is that for?

  4. It does NOT work with the 922. That is clearly left off the page here: http://www.dishnetwork.com/googletv/

And a review of the product by Engadget backs up the fact that it’s not supported:

Thanks for the heads up, our previous source insisted this was the case but the evidence suggests otherwise. Cheers.

  6. Brycud22 says:

Dish subscribers are limited to 1 revue at the discounted price.

Nicole here and I have a Revue and happen to work for DISH Network. I want to share that the $4 integration fee is to have the ability of 2-way communication between your DVR and the Revue. So when theme searches are performed the Revue will also search through what’s archived in the DVR along with upcoming programming. So if your search were to find something that’s playing next week a simple push of a button allows the Revue to tell your DVR to record it. Otherwise without integration you have to manually set a timer on your DVR. It’s a neat feature that I as a movie lover have found to be very beneficial.
