We reported the other day that LG was fully expected to announce their own Google TV device yesterday at IFA in Berlin. Well, yesterday came and left, and we still have no word about an official announcement. Speaking to reporters, LG’s TV division president Kang Shin-ik, had the following to say regarding their plans for a Google TV powered device.
“It’s true that LG plans to have its own version of the Google TV. But our investment in `smart’ televisions remains rather cautionary _ it is of course a market with immense potential, but it would take a lot more than hardware competitiveness to succeed in it,’”
Perhaps they are waiting to see how the Internet TV offerings of their competitors perform before jumping in with both feet. LG plans to sell 40 million televisions in 2011, up from the projected 25 million for 2010.
