We learned from the Seattle Times that Google has selected 400 employees to test out Google TV in their homes. Brittany Bohnet, who runs Google TV’s marketing campaign, and her fiancé, Dave, used to sit on their couch with one eye on the TV, and the other glued to their phones and laptops. Now, they are enjoying being able to experience their favorite aspects of the Web right on their TV screen.
“We have gone from hundreds of channels to millions of channels,” Bohnet said. “You can build your own TV experience.” Dave, a 29-year-old Internet entrepreneur, already loves the device. “This is going to be one of those things that people talk about,” he said. “People don’t get what the possibilities are.”
The later of that statement is exactly the problem Google is facing with GTV. Many people don’t yet understand what Google TV can do for them, and are generally less enthusiastic about it than someone who understands the technology. Google will need to pick up the marketing pace if Google TV is going to have an impact this fall, especially with Apple’s new iTV on the way.
