Google’s VP of engineering, Andy Rubin, spoke of a possible partnership between his company and electronics giants Samsung and LG, while attending a Samsung launch event for a new smartphone debuting in Soeul, South Korea. “If Samsung or LG want to use the (Google) platform to manufacture a TV, it is possible,” Rubin said, while speaking to the local press. He was also heard saying that Google wishes to make the Android market more accessible to South Koreans, as more and more Android phones enter the market there.

Rubin was also overheard talking up the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S, calling it “the state of the art today, the best of the best.” The Galaxy S, announced less than a day after Apple’s iPhone 4, was praised by Rubin for it’s proccessing power, elegant design, and software; all of which the Google exec. feels will make the phone a success.

If Samsung and/or LG join Sony in producing the first TV’s based on Google’s new platform, they could enjoy an edge over other companies who may be on the fence about jumping on the GTV bandwagon. A Samsung-Google TV, and a shiny new Samsung phone capable of controlling said TV, would make for an excellent promotional pairing.

Google is currently in partnerships with Sony, Logitech, and Dish Network for a targeted Fall release of the first Google TV devices.
